2015: What’s your resolution?

SG man Poster cartoon final

It’s that time of the year again when the calendar flips over to month number one, January. Along with the new year, often comes a list of potential new year goals or resolutions. Are you planning on making a new year’s resolution for 2015? If you are like 45% of the population in the United States, you answered yes. We want to help you be successful and achieve your resolution(s) and the best way to reach a goal is with a written plan. A SMART Goal plan.

Before we get started, do you know what the most common goal in America was in 2013? According to the University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Psychology, it was to lose weight. Ranked 5th on the list was ‘staying fit and healthy.’ Not too surprising when we look at the obesity trends over the last ten years in America. Unfortunately, the number of people that actually achieved their goals was a lowly 8%. But not too worry! This year, you are going to set SMART Goals with the help of SMART Goal Man and you are going to be more successful in achieving it! In the following video your will learn what a SMART Goal is and how to write one to meet your specific needs and desires.

Cindy Won!

cindy

Congratulations to Cindy Ferek and Turner Ashby High School! On Monday December 8th, 2014 she was awarded the Farmer’s Insurance Thank A Million Teachers grant totaling $100,000! None of this would have been possible without Cindy’s passion for biking, her students, and a healthy active lifestyle. Furthermore, Cindy’s dream of winning this grant would not have happened without all of you, and your support in voting for her over the past two months. Focused Fitness Trainer Alex O’Brien had this to say about Cindy and the award:

Monday was emotional for Chuck Mansley and myself. This has been a long time coming for Cindy. She started out writing grants 17 years ago to acquire a fleet of bikes. She has a fleet now and this money will be used to build a fitness trail surrounding Turner Ashby High School. I think the reason it was so emotional for me is because I’ve talked with Cindy quite a bit along this #thankateacher journey. Each day I would log on and vote because I knew that my vote mattered. Bottom line, this money is going to improve health and fitness in kids…that is a game changer for me, and I can’t be happier for my friend. It just goes to show ya that you have to shoot for the stars. That way, even if you fail, you’re on top of the world.

Cindy’s news story can be found by Clicking Here, or check out the cindy ferek press release. In case you missed it, check out the Chuck Mansley interview with Cindy before the voting had even begun, over two months ago.

Congrats Cindy!

Arkansas knows #QPE

After a recent training in Hoxie School District, AR we received some positive feedback and pictures about Focused Fitness trainer Wilson Campbell. Hoxie loved the training and all the tips and tricks to help their quality physical education (#QPE) program continue to grow. One of the games Wilson showed them was put into action in Coach Goodwin’s classroom. The game is a way to teach cardiorespiratory endurance and intensity using tic-tac-toe. We love hearing stories like this that show students learning to move and moving to learn!
